Our Teaching Philosophy
At Aptos Learning
Center we create an atmosphere where the student,
whatever his or her age, feels that “the
problem” is no longer his or hers alone,
but lies on the table between the student
and the teacher. They energetically
work to solve it together.
The student understands that the problem exists
not because he or she did not try hard enough
or was not smart enough, but because certain
sensory processing had not been developed
sufficiently enough to establish the permanent
pathways in the brain necessary to acquire
the skill of reading, spelling, comprehension,
or math. He or she learns to appreciate his
or her strengths, catch a glimpse of his or
her potential, and be able to put “the
problem” in perspective.
The word “no” is not part
of the lesson at Aptos Learning Center.
Instead, the student’s response is verified
in a positive way and with the teacher’s
questioning, the student is led to discover
the “correct” response. The student’s
energy and thought processes are constantly
an active part of each lesson.
The student at Aptos Learning Center
is never presented with a task for which he
or she is not fully prepared; therefore, the
student constantly experiences success.
Additionally, the student learns that it is
up to the teacher to challenge the student,
therefore the purpose of each lesson is to
learn and continue to grow. |
